Bubly to lead University Emergency Medicine Foundation

PROVIDENCE – The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and the University Emergency Medicine Foundation has named Dr. Gary Bubly the inaugural vice chair for clinical integration and innovation at its Department of Emergency Medicine.

Bubly, a clinical professor of emergency medicine, took on the position July 1.

Bubly brings a wealth of experience as medical director of the emergency department at Miriam Hospital and as well as a member of Miriam’s Medical Executive Committee, a longtime UEMF board member and finance committee chair, and past president of the Rhode Island Medical Society.

He’ll lead UEMF as it moves into Brown Physicians Inc., a multispecialty academic practice plan, where he’ll develop new models and methods to provide comprehensive care to patients in the Lifespan Emergency Department as well as foster collaboration with industry.

During the last six years under Bubly’s direction, Miriam’s emergency department was renovated, and experienced remarkable growth in patient volume while maintaining quality, efficient care.

Bubly has received numerous awards, including the Dr. Charles C.J. Carpenter Outstanding Physician of the Year Award from the Miriam medical staff, teaching awards from Brown, and has been named a “top doctor” in emergency medicine by Rhode Island Monthly magazine 13 times.

Bubly is currently pursuing a master’s degree in health care innovation at the University of Pennsylvania under the direction of Ezekiel Emmanuel. He will continue working clinically in the emergency departments at Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital.
