John M. Mathias, a partner in the Providence accounting firm of Piccerelli, Gilstein & Company, LLP has been appointed by Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Almond to the Rhode Island Board of Accountancy. RIBA is an autonomous body which sets the rules for and regulates the practice of accountancy in the State of Rhode Island. The Board’s purview encompasses licensure, continuing education and discipline. Mathias, who has been an accountant for 20 years and with Piccerelli, Gilstein & Co. for 17 of them, will serve as the Board’s treasurer. A North Providence resident, Mathias is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants, where he is a member of the Society’s Ethics Committee and chairman of the Business Valuation Committee.

Lucie M. Coughlin
Lucie M. Coughlin has been hired as account coordinator in the public relations department of Duffy & Shanley. She assists account executives in serving a variety of clients, including the Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pubs, the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, Cox Communications, Citizens Bank and supervises the public relations interns. A native of Pawtucket, Coughlin worked with several non-profit community organizations and for the Miriam Hospital of Providence before joining D & S. She attends Providence College.

The Rhode Island Society of Financial Service Professionals, formerly the RI Chapter of Chartered Life Underwriters and Chartered Financial Consultants, announced the following members as officers for the year. Maurice C. Sykes of Brokers’ Service Marketing Group was named president: John Proctor Braica of Adler, Pollock & Sheehan, president-elect; Michael J. Chazan, also with Adler, Pollock & Sheehan, vice president/member services; William J. Palmisciano, of The Equitable, vice president/education; Nyles L. Kruger of Amica, secretary; and Benedict J. Ingegneri, treasurer.
Diane E. Forte
Diane E. Forte has been promoted to the sales and service manager of the newly renovated BankBoston in the Super Stop & Shop Supermarket in Narragansett. She is responsible for managing the sales and operations of the center. The new office will provide fully staffed account opening and loan application services. In addition, there will be two full-service ATMs for routine banking transactions, including withdrawals, deposits with cash back, transfers, balance inquiries and the purchase of U.S. Postage stamps. Forte, a Providence College graduate, was an assistant manager in the Cranston supermarket branch of SS&SS before her promotion.

Timothy J. Manown, MD
Timothy J. Manown, MD has been appointed to the internal medicine department of Kent Hospital. Board certified in internal medicine, Dr. Manown received his medical degree from Brown University Medical School, and completed his internship and residency training in internal medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Manown, a member of the American College of Physicians, most recently served as an internist at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Augusta, Georgia. In this role he was the medical center’s director of ambulatory medical education, internal medicine residency program.
David A. Lantto
David A. Lantto has joined the Lifespan, the Providence-based health care system, from Samaritan Health System in Phoenix, Ariz. He is a CPA with 24 years of experience in teaching hospitals and health care systems in Arizona, Michigan and Colorado. The new chief financial officer earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Wayne State University in Michigan.

Richard Fenstermaker
Richard Fenstermaker was recently promoted to general manager for Newport Creamery, Inc., based in Middle-town. His responsibilities now include overseeing the administration of purchasing, manufacturing and distribution of all Newport Creamery food and ice cream products. He is also responsible for the maintenance of all Newport Creamery facilities. After working as an ice cream product manager for Basic American Frozen Foods, Fenstermaker, a Stonehill College graduate, joined the creamery in 1993 as production manager. At the time he was in charge of production scheduling and formulation of Newport Creamery ice cream flavors. In 1996 he was named director of manufacturing and distribution.
Bill Ferellec
Bill Ferellec, a 20-year veteran of the restaurant and food service industry, has joined Fire + Ice Improvisational Grille as the general manager of the company’s new Providence Place location. Ferellec will oversee all areas of operation for the new 8,200 sq. ft. restaurant slated to open later this month on the Francis Street side of the shopping center. He is currently overseeing the construction of the restaurant and is responsible for all buying, hiring and training and overall restaurant operations. Ferellec has held positions at Alliant Foodservice, the Mass. Food Buyers/Restaurant Development Associates, Matt Garretts restaurants, the Newton Marriott Hotel, Rest Haven Inn and the Red Coach Grills.

Lorraine M. Harrop
Lorraine M. Harrop has been appointed residential mortgage officer for First Bank and Trust Company. She has extensive experience in the residential mortgage industry and will be responsible for business development. In this role, she will be expanding the Bank’s product line and enhancing current programs. Prior to joining First Bank, she was wholesale account executive for Residential Mortgage Corp., in Cranston. A CCRI grad, she also worked at Speedcraft VW Mazda for four years as the business and finance manager.

John Chenard
John Chenard has joined UNICOM’s consulting services division as principal consultant. His responsibilities will include overseeing networking and Internet security services for corporate, government and education clients throughout New England. Previously an Information Technology manager with American Power Conversion in West Kingston, Chenard comes to UNICOM with nearly 12 years experience building and maintaining global IT solutions in large corporate environments. He resides in North Kingstown.
