EAST PROVIDENCE – If your business owns a computer, a tablet or a cell phone – you’re exposed to cyberattacks.
That’s according to a new white paper report released by David Soforenko, president and chief operating officer of Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage Inc., based in East Providence.
“You know it’s bad when cyber experts describe the threat of a breach merely in terms of ‘when’ you’ve been breached,” instead of “if” you’ve been breached, according to the report.
Soforenko describes the cyber liability insurance marketplace as the “wild, wild west” because coverage varies so greatly and exposure is difficult to pin down.
The insurance agency recommends business owners think of cyber liability in five key aspects of policy:
- Forensic and legal expenses
- Public relations
- Notification and credit monitoring
- Business interruption
- Cyber extortion
