Cadence wins 2017 Leadership in MedTech Award for contract manufacturing

CRANSTON – Cadence Inc., a medical-device and specialty industrial manufacturer based in Staunton, Va., with a location on Plainfield Pike in Cranston, has been voted by readers of Medical Design & Outsourcing magazine as the winner of the 2017 Leadership in MedTech Award for Contract Manufacturing for the second year in a row.

“The Cadence team is extremely proud to be the winner recognized in the very competitive field of contract manufacturing,” said CEO Alan Connor. “We are accelerating and expanding our services in ways that provide new value for our customers.”

Cadence employs 450 people in four locations, with its Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Pittsburgh sites rounding out the list. In Cranston, the company employs 207 people focusing on laser welding, tube fabrication, machining, PEEK thermoplastic machining and Nitinol (nickel-titanium alloy) shape-setting.

The latter two are popular with clients, said Chip Harvill, vice president at Cadence.

“Our customers are finding these capabilities to be very attractive in their new product development,” Harvill said.

The Cranston site accounts for $36.1 million of the company’s $100 million annual revenue, he said.

“Our Cranston facility is a critical part of our ongoing success as a contract-manufacturing partner,” Harvill added.

Harvill said the company expanded into Rhode Island in 2008 when they bought Popper & Sons in Lincoln, later moving the site to Cranston to a larger facility.

Tegra Medical, a medical-device manufacturer that produces components and complete devices for surgical and interventional companies, headquartered in Franklin, Mass., but with a location in Dartmouth, was voted as the winner of the 2017 Leadership in MedTech Award for Product Development.
