BRISTOL – Coggeshall Farm Museum was the recipient of a $50,000 Carter Family Charitable Trust operations grant, the nonprofit announced earlier this spring.

The funds will be put toward achieving educational and programmatic goals this year, said Executive Director Eleanor Langham in a statement, as well as a workshop series, restoration of the circa 1750s-era farmhouse roof and two exhibits planned for the museum’s new gallery.

“All of this is possible thanks to the generosity of supporters like the Carter Fund,” she said in her remarks.

Established in 1992 by longtime Rhode Island philanthropists John and Letitia Carter, the Carter Charitable Family Trust continues to support the museum, which Letitia helped establish in the 1970s.

“The long-term support of the Carter Fund helped to secure the future of Coggeshall Farm Museum,” said Steve Lake, museum president, in prepared remarks. “We … are grateful, beyond measure, for the generosity and trust bestowed upon us.”

Set on 48 acres of coastal farmland in Bristol, Coggeshall recreates the daily experience of tenant farmers on a salt-marsh farm through live interpretation, historic structures, heirloom plants and heritage breed animals.
