PROVIDENCE – Credit Unions of Rhode Island has launched a new TV program called “Better Banking,” designed to promote financial education to viewers.

The 30-minute show will air a new episode each month on Cox Communications throughout Rhode Island, and is produced by the Cooperative Credit Union Association, according to a press release.

Paul Gentile, president of CCUA, will host the show, which he hopes will improve financial literacy among Rhode Islanders.

“Financial literacy is very important to credit unions and the cooperative business model they espouse,” said Gentile. “Adding a monthly cable TV program to its long list of education initiatives is just another way for credit unions to help consumers become better managers of their finances.”

The program will air on the YurView Channel (Cox Cable Channel 4 and 1004) at 2 p.m. on Sundays and 7 p.m. on Thursdays, according to the release.

The program will include interviews and presentations on a range of topics from consumer finance to financial security.

“Our new YurView channel was created to help tell local stories and provide our customers with useful information in a unique format,” said Jeff Abney, vice president of marketing at Cox Communications, in a statement. “ ‘Better Banking’ is a perfect example of how this channel can be leveraged to reach a wide audience with a valuable message.”

The program will also air in Connecticut and in Holland, Mass.
