WEST WARWICK – In support of the Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island emergency meal program, the Centreville Bank Charitable Foundation donated a $25,000 grant to MWRI, according to a mid-December news release from the financial institution.
“Rhode Island’s homebound seniors are particularly vulnerable in the winter, when snow, ice and other hazards can cause power outages and prevent deliveries from getting to their homes,” said Tom Lamb, president, chairman and CEO of Centreville Bank, in a statement. “We are happy to support Meals on Wheels in this effort to provide our fellow Rhode Islanders with food security for those times when they will need it most.”
The money will fund the creation of meal boxes sent to seniors in need. These boxes contain five nonperishable, nutritional meals designed to hold over seniors during winter storms when they may not be able to leave their homes and shop for groceries. Specific foods often include cereal, canned goods and soups, raisins, applesauce, juice and dried milk.
Heather Amaral, executive director of Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, said more than 1,200 seniors rely on such packages during winter-related emergencies.
“Centreville Bank has been our partner in this vital service since 2015. We are thankful for their continued commitment to the emergency meal program and delighted to have them as a partner in our mission,” she said in a statement.
