FALL RIVER – CHF Industries Inc. will end manufacturing operations at its local plant in early March, eliminating about 90 jobs, but will continue to use the building for other purposes, company officials said.
“As a result of the elimination of the demand for the product produced in its Fall River factory, CHF Industries Inc. must cease all manufacturing operations at that location,” human resource manager Tony Simoes said in a statement. The company has applied for aid under the federal Trade Readjustment Act, citing foreign competition.
“CHF will continue to supply warehousing and distribution processes, along with other support functions, from this facility,” Simoes said. “Approximately 90 jobs will be eliminated in about 60 days as a result of this change in operations.”
The South Carolina-based company uses purchased material to craft drapes, curtains, blinds and shades, under its Aberdeen Manufacturing label. It also manufactures bedding, from mattress pads and featherbeds to sheets, comforters and duvet covers.
Its Fall River plant – at 847 Pleasant St., near Britland Park – has housed curtain-making operations since 1945, first as Louis Hand Inc., and later as Aberdeen Manufacturing. It has been operating under the CHF label since at least 2000, according to The Herald News.
The end of manufacturing operations will leave less than 150 workers at a plant that in the late 1990s employed more than 600.
Company officials are working with the Rapid Response team of the Mass. Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development to aid those who will be losing their jobs. The workers are expected to be eligible for extended benefits.
