PROVIDENCE – Citizens Bank last week announced a partnership with a New Hampshire-based fintech company to launch a new online- and mobile-banking platform for its commercial and business customers.

The new platform – done in partnership with Bottomline Technologies – is designed to make life easier for customers of the Providence-based bank.

“Clients want to be able to complete their cash management activities with automation, speed, security and flexibility, leveraging the latest technology to make their jobs easier,” said Michael Cummins, head of Treasury Solutions at Citizens. “This is the latest of significant investments we are making in our product offering to advance Citizens’ objective of becoming a best-in-class treasury-management service provider.”

The new tool is the most recent step the bank has made toward becoming more technologically savvy. Citizens in a statement said it made the decision to partner with Bottomline – based in Portsmouth, N.H. – after “extensive research into industry trends, vendor landscape and market conditions.”

A payment system at its core, the Bottomline software is also designed to integrate various aspects of digital banking on a secured platform.

“This new technology platform brings together a unique combination of financial-services offerings, which until now were largely restricted to single-point solutions that can be overly complex and expensive,” said Norm DeLuca, managing director and general manager of digital banking solutions at Bottomline Technologies.

Citizens Bank is a subsidiary of Citizens Financial Group Inc. – the largest Rhode Island-based bank – with $150.3 billion in assets.
