Citizens, WJAR award $35K to Women’s Resource Center

NEWPORT – Citizens Bank and WJAR-TV NBC 10 has named Newport County Women’s Resource Center a “2016 Champion in Action,” awarding it $35,000 in unrestricted funding, media coverage and promotional and volunteer support, according to a press release.
“The Women’s Resource Center has made a substantial impact in our state and in the lives of Newport residents, enabling them to manage their health and the health of their families,” said Barbara Cottam, market executive at Citizens. “We are proud to support the Women’s Resource Center as our next Champion in Action, which will result in a safer, more empowered community.”
The Champions in Action award is a part of the bank’s Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Community program, designed to “enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities,” according to a press release.
The Women’s Resource Center is a part of the Newport Health Equity Zone, a citywide coalition that advocates for “a structurally and financially sound city in which the residents of Newport can live healthy lives.” The bank says the Women’s Resource center is the “backbone agency” of the coalition.
