PROVIDENCE – Parks Superintendent Alix Ogden says that, due to overwhelming public response, the Waterfront Design Competition Selection Committee has been granted additional time to decide between the contest’s two finalists. The announcement of the winner, originally set for Oct. 30, will take place some has been postponed until later next month.
“The community has responded very enthusiastically to the Design Competition, and as a result, we have received a tremendous amount of public input,” Ogden said. Therefore, he said, the members of the selection committee “wanted to postpone the announcement, to ensure that they had enough time to review all of the public comments and have a thoughtful deliberation before making a final decision.”

The finalists are contending for the “once in a lifetime” opportunity to design two major waterfront parks on land that is becoming available because of the Route I-195 relocation.
The finalists were chosen from a pool of entries by the same 11-member Waterfront Design Selection Committee that will decide among them. The panel, created by Mayor David N. Cicilline, includes business leaders, city residents, artists, parents, environmental advocates, design experts and others.
