PROVIDENCE – A proposal by Brown University to demolish or relocate five historic buildings to make room for a new performing arts center between Angell and Waterman streets will be heard on Jan. 16.
A hearing by the city’s City Plan Commission on whether to allow Brown to amend its Institutional Master Plan was continued to the mid-January date. A vote is expected.
The university wants to build the new performing arts center in a campus location that is central to other performing arts facilities and its programs. Many neighbors and the Providence Preservation Society are opposed.
