PROVIDENCE – Multiple programs designed to prepare local students from low-income families and neighborhoods for the rigors of higher education are included in The College Crusade of Rhode Island’s fall schedule, announced in September.
One headline program is a 10-week Critical Thinking and Writing workshop out of Providence College. Therein, students will engage in critical thinking, large- and small-group discussions, and individual essays about the media.

Additionally, Saturday Math Academy participants will practice math skills that complement classroom learning.
Cru Club members will meet on Saturdays and after school to participate in a range of enrichment-focused activities, including mentoring, homework help, financial literacy, science and engineering workshops, life skills seminars, book clubs and to hear from career-focused speakers.
Among other opportunities, middle school students are invited to enroll in the 10-week Crusade Adventure and Academic Program, which develops leadership, problem-solving and team-building skills as well as the confidence to take healthy risks.
In addition to helping middle school and high school students prepare for higher education, College Crusade also offers support for students who are just starting college this fall. Welcome events and monthly advisories held at Rhode Island College, University of Rhode Island and the Community College of Rhode Island focus on connecting college students to resources and supports that ensure their long-term postsecondary success.
