Collette seeks $1.3M in state job creation incentives for employment expansion

PAWTUCKET – Collette Travel Service Inc. plans to create 50 jobs with salaries that exceed the state’s median by 2021, according to a R.I. Commerce Corp. financial analysis, part of an overall expansion that will also include lesser-paid call center positions.

The travel services company is seeking $1.3 million in state job creation tax credits for the 50 higher-paid positions, which will have a median salary of $59,000. Jobs will include those in information technology, product design and professional services.

The state Qualified Jobs incentive program can provide a company with a year tax credit up to $7,500 per employee per year if the new positions pay more than the state median salary.

Under a proposal to be considered Monday by the Commerce RI board, will create and maintain the positions for at least 12 years to qualify for the $1.3 million in state incentives.

An economic impact analysis performed for Commerce RI by the consulting firm Appleseed estimates that the 50 positions would have a direct and indirect impact of $8.6 million annually on the state’s gross domestic product, with a gross increase of $3.9 million in personal income, sales and business tax revenues over the 12-year period.

The family-owned company had 395 employees in Rhode Island in 2017, according to the 2018 Book of Lists published by the Providence Business News.
