PROVIDENCE – The Providence-Newport ferry now has its own website, thanks to the R.I. Commerce Corp. and the R.I. Department of Transportation. The new site—www.RideTheBayRI.com—provides schedule and fare information as well as a direct link to book reservations through Seastreak, the state’s contracted ferry operator, the two companies announced in a press release on Wednesday.

The site, which was designed internally by RIDOT, also contains information regarding directions, parking, RIPTA’s free shuttle to the ferry terminal at 25 India St. in Providence, and things to do and see in both cities.

The 2017 season will begin with a kick-off event at noon on Fri. June 16 at the Providence ferry landing and in the adjacent India Point Park. This year there will be four trips Sunday through Thursday and five trips on Fridays, Saturdays and holidays. Tickets are available now at www.RideTheBayRI.com or beginning Friday at the Providence terminal or the ferry landing in Newport located in Perrotti Park at 39 America’s Cup Ave. The ferry will run through October 1.

Previously, the Providence-Newport ferry did not have its own website, and schedule information and tickets were available primarily through Seastreak’s website.
