Committee to hear from two sides of tax cuts issue

The Rhode Island General Assembly’s Permanent Joint Committee on Economic Development will hear from opposite ends of the spectrum on the issue of tax cuts when the committee meets on Wednesday at the State House.

R.I. Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Michael McMahon and Jean Robertson, the EDC’s senior director of policy and research, will offer the committee their position on the economic job benefits of tax cuts.

Economist Ellen Frank, of the Poverty Institute at Rhode Island College, will offer her views in opposition to tax cuts.

The hearing will be held from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Senate Lounge. Co-chairs of the committee are Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr., D-Bristol, Tiverton, Warren, and Rep. Elizabeth M. Dennigan, D-East Providence, Pawtucket.

The hearing will be televised live by Capitol TV, the broadcast arm of the General Assembly, and can be viewed on Channel 15 by Cox Cable and FullChannel subscribers.
