Companies with R.I. offices make Working Mother Best 100 Companies list

PROVIDENCE – Working Mother released its 100 Best Companies 2017 list this week and while no Rhode Island-headquartered companies made the list, several companies with significant operations in the state were named.

The list grades parental leave policies, family support, female advancement, female representation and schedule flexibility.

Companies with Rhode Island offices that broke the Top 10:

Bank of America Corp. was named to the top 10 of companies on the list for its 29th year on the Best 100 list, with 16 fully paid weeks off for new moms, dads and adoptive parents, and a 55 percent representation of women in its workforce.

Ernst & Young LLP also made the top 10 list, and has made the top 100 list 21 times. The company offers 16 weeks paid off to new parents. The company consists of 45 percent women, 100 percent of which participate in mentoring.

Johnson & Johnson Inc. – Also making the top 10, Johnson & Johnson offers 15 weeks of paid vacation to new mothers, and 8 to fathers and adoptive parents. Of its 39,372 employees, 45 percent are women. Also, 46 percent of females at the company participate in management and leadership training.

Other operating in Rhode Island companies to make the Top 100:

  • Booz Allen Hamilton was picked for the list for the 19th time. Thirty-seven percent of its total workforce of 22,618 are women, while 34 percent of managers and executives are women. On average new mothers receive eight weeks of paid leave, while new fathers receive two weeks and adoptive parents six weeks.
  • General Electric Co. made the list for is 15th year. Despite a low percentage of women represented in the company (23 percent), GE ranked well for its family support and female advancement programs.
  • Grant Thornton LLP made its 12th appearance on the list. New mothers and adoptive parents are each granted 12 weeks of paid leave, while new fathers receive two weeks. Forty-five percent of company employees are women, while 95 percent of employees telecommute.
  • KMPG LLP made the rankings for its 21st year. The compapy is 45 percent women, with near 100 percent female career counseling, mentorship, and management and leadership training participation. KMPG also offers 16 paid weeks off for new mothers.
  • MassMutual Financial Group has made the list for 17 years. Mew mothers receive five weeks of paid leave, while new fathers and adoptive parents average three weeks of paid leave. More than half, 55 percent, of the company’s employees are women, while 45 percent are managers or executives.
  • Metlife Inc. cracked the top 100 list for its 19th year in 2017. The company is comprised of 58 percent women, with 14 paid weeks off for new moms and a high percentage for female employees who participate in career counseling.
  • Morgan Stanley has now made the list 16 years, employing 39,382 employees, 38 percent of whom are women. The company offers 16 paid weeks off to new mothers and adoptive parents. The company offers 1 week paid leave for new fathers.
  • OppenheimerFunds Inc. made the list for the first time this year, with a staff that is 42 percent female. The company offers 13 paid weeks leave for new mothers. The company reports that 80 percent of its employees telecommute and nearly one-third of its female employees participate in career counseling.
  • TIAA, with 11 years on the list, offers 10 weeks of paid leave to new mothers, as well as four weeks for new dads and adoptive parents. While 56 percent of female employees participate in career counseling, only 2 percent of female employees participate in management/leadership training.
  • Verizon, now having made the list 17 years, employs a staff that is 36 percent female. The company offers 2 weeks paid leave for all new parents, but offers backup childcare and backup eldercare. Also 80 percent of the company’s female employees participate in career counseling.
