The ceremonies started at 5 p.m. Hosted by CNN business news anchor Ali Velshi, they were shown live on the Internet by HB Group Inc. of North Haven, Conn., and broadcast on the Business TalkRadio Network. ABA awards are presented in more than 40 categories, including Best Overall Company, Best Executive, and Best Corporate Social Responsibility Program. The 2006 awards will include special honors for several businesses that have played “pivotal roles” in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Among the winners is Cote & D’Ambrosio, with offices in Wickford, Tampa, Fla., and Baton Rouge. The agency won an award in the category of “best TV or cinema ad campaign” for the 15- and 30-second television ads it developed for North Kingstown-based Ocean State Job Lot. The tongue-in-cheek ads, which debuted in October, were Job Lot’s first foray into TV advertising.
Defibtech LLC, of Guilford, Conn., was a winner in the category of best overall company up to 100 employees.
Several Massachusetts companies are winners in categories including: best new company; best new product or service, in the manufacturing, software, or telecommunications subcategories; best overall company up to 2,500 employees; most innovative company up to 100 employees; best customer service organization, in financial services and in all other industries; best marketing organization; and best support team. Yuchun Lee, co-founder and CEO of Boston-based Unica Corp. was a winner for best executive, computer software and services, while Michael Stonebraker, CTO of StreamBase Systems in Lexington, Mass., took a best executive in MIS and IT, and Basho Stragegies Inc. founder and CEO M. Jeffrey Hoffman was one of those named in the best sales trainer category
