PROVIDENCE – Unemployment Insurance claims due to COVID-19 in Rhode Island increased by 2,861 on Tuesday, to a total of 122,079, the R.I. Department of Labor and Training said on Wednesday.
UI filings since March 9 in the state totaled 154,778 as of Tuesday.
Filings for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, a program created by the federal government to cover those that typically are not covered by UI, such as contractors, the self-employed and small-business owners, increased by 1,589 Tuesday to total 24,485.
Temporary Disability Claims due to the coronavirus in Rhode Island totaled 9,736 as of Tuesday, marking a 171 increase day to day. TDI claims since March 9 in Rhode Island totaled 16,932.
My friends application is pending for Pandemic Unemployment assistance. When should she be able to start collecting something??? Also she pays Quarterly taxes as a Sole Proprietor at her shop… The IRS doesn’t send her any income tax payment because she pays out every year…How will she get the Stimulus check for her and her family if the IRS doesnt have any direct deposit info on her because she pays in??? Will they use the information from filing her taxes??? I imagine her S.S# is there when she files whether she recieved income tax back or pays out ????
I think the small businesses are hit the hardest…They are the ones who are being denied funds, loans, unemployment……People who normally work at a job and get laced off because of the Coronavirus can automatically collect unemployment…Someone who works alone and runs there own business has/had to wait for the new Pandemic assistance application to file and still waiting and waiting to hear something….They have families, bills, mortgages, etc, etc, ….Something needs to be done to get the gig workers, Sole Propiertors some help fast!
