NORTH KINGSTOWN – Cox Communications will unveil its Connected Independence smart home, a property at Reynolds Farm featuring technology that will allow residents 65 and above to “age in place,” during an open house at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
The smart home is part of a new housing community under development by Warwick builder h.a. Fisher Homes. It will feature technologies designed to keep seniors safe and maintain more independence, according to Cox.
The event will include local elected officials, as well as Rose Jones, director of the R.I. Division of Elderly Affairs; Maureen Maigret, chair of the Aging in Community subcommittee of the Long Term Care Coordinating Council, under the Office of Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee; Jody Shue, executive director of Age Friendly Rhode Island; William Flynn, executive director of the Senior Agenda Coalition of Rhode Island; Nick Rabar, chef of the Avenue N American Kitchen and The Pantry in East Providence; Jay Allbaugh, senior vice president and region manager for Cox Communications’ Northeast region; and construction representatives.
Demonstrations will include home automation, telehealth, virtual reality, security and entertainment functions.
The property is located at Kingstowne Ridge at Reynolds Farm at 112 Seawynds Drive.
