PROVIDENCE – Cox Communications announced that it has increased the speeds of each package of its popular Cox High Speed Internet service. The company’s flagship Cox High Speed Internet Preferred package now offers 4.0 Mbps per second of download speed with 512 Kbps upload speed, making it the fastest broadband Internet service available for under $40 (bundled price).
For most customers, the increase in speed will be immediate; all customers will see the increase by Sept. 1.
“Last night we ‘flipped the switch’ and significantly increased the speed of our Internet service for all residential customers,” said Doreen Studley, vice president of marketing for Cox Communications New England, in an Aug. 11 press release. “We recognize that consumers have a choice in Internet service, and it’s important for us to constantly look for ways to evolve our services to best meet the changing needs of consumers.”

Ambulatory sleep screener introduced by Astro-Med
WEST WARWICK – The Grass-Telefactor Product Group of Astro-Med Inc. has introduced a new ambulatory sleep screener. Called SleepTrek, the small, lightweight nine-channel data recorder was engineered for use in the home to screen patients for possible sleep disorders.
Prior to the introduction of SleepTrek, most sleep disorders were traditionally diagnosed in a hospital or sleep clinic. Because of the cost associated with an overnight hospital stay, many sleep disorders went undetected in the past. The SleepTrek sleep screener can be used at home in an unsupervised mode by the patient, and returned to the hospital for a record review by a technician.
Grass-Telefactor believes the market for ambulatory sleep screeners is expanding both domestically, as insurance providers begin to reimburse this home procedure, and internationally, where the lower cost home screening device is fairly popular.
