Cox launches new Spanish-language content in free Digital Academy

WEST WARWICK – Cox Communications announced in a press release that it’s expanding its Cox Digital Academy to include free resources to help broaden opportunities for the Spanish population.

The expansion was announced at the League of United Latin American Citizens Academy, Cox said, with better education, job and housing opportunities among its goals.

Cox Digital Academy aims to narrow the digital divide by offering resources at the site for those looking to improve their digital skills, Cox said.

Cox also offers discounted home internet service via its Connect2Compete program.

“We are committed to giving every child the opportunity to reach their full potential; digital skills and access to a fast and reliable internet connection are essential to thrive in today’s world,” said Cox Communications President Pat Esser. “Cox’s expanded program includes digital-literacy training tools in local libraries and online through the free Cox Connect2Compete Digital Academy. … We are proud to incorporate articles and videos that are available in Spanish and English.”

Resources available through the Cox Digital Academy range from computer and internet basics to educational games for students. Spanish-language content includes tips on using media and technology to raise bilingual kids; facts about online predators; apps for students’ math skills; and kindergarten-readiness exercises.

Families with at least one K-12 student living in public housing or qualifying for a free or reduced school lunch are eligible to sign up for the Connect2Compete discounted internet service at home, and have free access to more than 500,000 hotspots nationwide.
