WOONSOCKET – Participants in the CVS Weight Management program achieved more than 15% weight loss on average, according to program results recently released by CVS Health Corp.
CVS tracked the data of 265,000 members from August 2023 to September 2024, including participants who already use anti-obesity medication. These participants almost doubled their pre-program weight loss when they worked with clinicians on diet and lifestyle changes.

Almost 30% of participants had lost less than 1% of body weight on anti-obesity medication before joining the program. These members lost an average of 11.7% of their weight after enrolling. Also, members who stopped anti-obesity medications and kept lifestyle support maintained 94% of their weight loss after six months.
Before enrolling in the program, 70% of participants were using a weight management drug without any lifestyle or nutrition support.
The program offers one-on-one virtual support from a registered dietitian. The dietitians offer personalized nutrition planning based on health needs, social determinants of health and cultural preferences.
“The data are clear: GLP-1 weight-loss drugs work best when combined with nutrition, lifestyle support and proper dosing,” said Dr. Michelle Gourdine, chief medical officer of CVS Caremark. “The CVS Weight Management program is a clinically rigorous solution that helps optimize the effectiveness of GLP-1s for weight loss for those that use them. It also supports members in making changes to improve weight and cardiometabolic health without medication to help offset or achieve success without the use of medication.”
CVS Caremark clients who used the program spent up to 26% less on GLP-1 medications for weight loss than those who did not participate. After six months in the program, 92% of participants expressed satisfaction with it.
As of Feb.1, the program is available to more than 3.5 million CVS Caremark plan members.
