NORTH KINGSTOWN – Dominion Diagnostics LLC celebrated two decades in business as a drug-monitoring company in November, and stands poised to mark a milestone of testing more than 1 million unique patient samples – most of whom were affected by the ever-expanding national drug use epidemic.

In 1997, a group of scientists recognized a need to deliver a higher standard of drug testing than was available at the time and founded Dominion Diagnostics, with special interest in the addiction medicine field.

Today, Dominion’s services are offered throughout more than 75 percent of the United States. According to the company, it has performed laboratory tests in the fields of addiction treatment, behavioral health and pain management, providing actionable data and custom clinical tools that inform patient treatment and advance the quality of care.

“Congratulations to Dominion Diagnostics on 20 successful years,” said Steven King, managing director of the Quonset Development Corp. “These kinds of successful companies are what makes the Quonset Business Park the leading engine of job growth in Rhode Island.”

Dominion Diagnostics employs more than 300 people nationally. In two of the last three years, Dominion Diagnostics has been recognized among Providence Business News’ Best Places to Work in Rhode Island (2015, 2017). The company has also been honored for three consecutive years as one of PBN’s Healthiest Employers in Rhode Island, and has achieved exemplary winner status for two consecutive years in the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island Worksite Health Awards.

“Our employees are the foundation of our company; it’s thanks to our people that we have grown and thrived for over two decades doing this important work,” said Bob Garvey, Dominion Diagnostics CEO. “There will be challenges and learnings that lie ahead of us for the next 20 years – with respect to regulatory changes and guidance, the growing concerns related to our nation’s opioid epidemic and evolving drug use trends – but with our team and our experience, we are ready for those and we will continue to focus on delivering positive outcomes to patients’ lives.”

Dominion Diagnostics is headquartered in a 50,000-square foot, state-of-the-art laboratory in North Kingstown (located within the Quonset Development Corp. network) and delivers the vast majority of its services through Rhode Island. Two additional laboratories in Williston, Vt., and Greensboro, N.C., allow for regional support in the Northeast and Southeast.

National logistics and supply partnerships, as well as numerous patient service center locations, allow Dominion to support the expanding needs of its customers who represent like-minded addiction treatment centers, behavioral health facilities, pain management practices, primary care practices and hospital systems.
