PROVIDENCE – The Vestas 11th Hour Racing team has finished the Volvo Ocean Race, arriving at The Hague, Netherlands, on Sunday, placing seventh for the leg and fifth in the race overall.

Vestas 11th Hour Racing finished with 39 points. The DongFeng Race Team placed first both in the final leg of the race and the race overall with 73 points. The MAPFRE team placed second overall with a score of 70 points, followed closely by Team Brunel with 69 points.

Of the Vestas 11th Hour Racing’s finish to the Volvo Ocean Race, Skipper Charlie Enright said, “It might not be the fairytale ending we were hoping for, but I am proud to have gone around the world with this team carrying an important message bigger than our results.”

Although the race has been decided, the teams will participate in an in-port race in The Hague on June 30.

Vestas 11th Hour Racing had a difficult race this year, with a collision in Hong Kong that led to the death of a fisherman and a demasting south of the Falkland Islands, leading to the team retiring or not participating in four of the 11 legs of the Volvo Ocean Race.

“I especially want to congratulate winners, Dongfeng Race Team,” added Enright. “I have great respect for Charles Caudrelier and his crew, and they deserve this win as any team would. What a way to end the Volvo Ocean Race.”
