RHODE ISLAND – Collection of the 1 percent local hotel tax in Rhode Island declined 17.5 percent, or $88,006, year over year to $414,728 in October, according to the R.I. Department of Revenue Friday.
The decline was largely attributable to collections from realtors and homeowners, which dropped to $10,436 from $95,948. Much of this decline took place in New Shoreham, where realtor and homeowner collections declined to $853 from $78,557.
The 1 percent tax from traditional hotels remained relatively stable year over year at $394,947 in October, a negligible increase from $394,882 in October 2017.
Room resellers and hosting platform collections in the state declined $2,619 year over year to $9,345.
Fiscal year to date in October, collection of the 1 percent local hotel tax totaled $2.5 million, a 3.4 percent decline from collections fiscal year to date in October 2017 when collections totaled $2.6 million. The decline was largely attributable to a decline in realtors and homeowners collections, which declined $90,284 year over year to $359,431.
