Dr. Helena Kuhn

2021 40 Under Forty Awards
Dr. Helena Kuhn | 37 | Assistant Professor of Dermatology, Brown University Warren Alpert Medical School; Dermatologist, Brown Dermatology

What is the best advice you have ever received? Failures are just speed bumps – not stop signs – on the road to success.

Where do you see yourself in five years? My next five years will involve developing three major initiatives at Brown Dermatology: 1. The Skin of Color Clinic, 2. The Hair Health Clinic and 3. The Brown Dermatology-Kenya partnership. I will work to bring clinical care and research dollars to unserved populations and recruit fellow dermatologists into these underdeveloped areas.

What was your first job? Cleaning stalls on a horse farm. I absolutely loved it.

What was your last Netflix or Amazon Prime binge watch? “Lupin” – a must-watch!

Fox or MSNBC? A loaded question that divides, not unites! Don’t you wish you could just watch the news without the editorializing? Not everything is political … in fact, most things are not. If you can’t tell, I’ve grown weary of the hyper-partisan politics that unfortunately dominate our culture.

What does winning this award mean to you? It feels great to know that the work we are doing at Brown Dermatology is recognized by others as contributing to the greater good in Rhode Island and beyond. The award adds fuel to the fire and propels me to work even harder.

THE PROP: Dr. Helena Kuhn poses with a Cry-Ac gun, which dermatologists use for cryotherapy on the skin.
