East Providence names planning and economic-development director

EAST PROVIDENCE – William J. Fazioli, a former city manager, has been named director of planning and economic development in Rhode Island’s fifth-largest city.

The position oversees a newly formed planning and economic-development department. He will be responsible for business and economic growth in the city, according to a news release.

Fazioli is a former member of the East Providence Waterfront Commission. The commission has been overseeing the redevelopment of 300 acres of vacant property along the Seekonk River and Narragansett Bay.

He served as city manager of East Providence from 2004 to 2006.

Before joining the city, Fazioli was director at Public Financial Advisors PFM, a municipal advisory firm in Providence. He holds a master’s degree in public administration from the State University of New York at Albany and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology from Rhode Island College.
