EAST PROVIDENCE – An amphitheater has been proposed for the area next to Bold Point Park. Live Nation Entertainment and RI Waterfront Enterprises LLC, working with East Providence and the East Providence Waterfront Commission, announced Thursday their intention to build an amphitheater overlooking the Providence River that will house the city’s waterfront concert series currently being held at Bold Point Park, among other events.
The 45-acre plot was purchased by RI Waterfront Enterprises for $4.5 million in June, according to property records. RI Waterfront Enterprise is headquartered at the offices of Mugar Enterprises Inc. in Boston. Mugar Enterprises describes itself as a privately held, family real estate development firm. The property was last assessed at $5.5 million.

The amphitheater is planned to go live in 2020. The developer also plans to use the land to build a deep-water port to cater to the offshore wind energy sector. The property already features a dock.
“It was important for the city to champion this project, because it adds to our city’s commercial tax base, as well as solidifies the State of Rhode Island’s commitment to green energy and its position at the forefront of offshore wind energy,” said East Providence Mayor Bob DaSilva in a statement.
Waterfront Enterprises said that it is working with local companies currently to settle upon naming rights for the amphitheater.
Live Nation is one of the largest events promoter in the world. Live Nation New England will oversee the venue’s booking.
