NEW BEDFORD – Admission at the New Bedford Whaling Museum will be discounted to $3 for adult and youth beneficiaries of the Bay State’s EBT Card to Culture Program, thanks to a new initiative supported by the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

“The Museum is continually exploring ways to enhance learning, foster creativity and celebrate culture in our community and beyond,” Michelle Taylor, chief administrative officer, said in an Aug. 30 statement. “The EBT Card to Culture Program will help the residents of our community and region have an equal opportunity to experience the Museum and its educational content.”

The museum is one of numerous historically and culturally significant sites to discount admission as part of the program. A full list of participating locations can be found online.

“In our new strategic plan, the Mass Cultural Council envisions a Commonwealth where culture is inclusive, accessible and embraces our diversity,” Anita Walker, executive director of the Massachusetts Cultural Council said in prepared remarks. “The EBT Card to Culture Program is an important step toward achieving that vision in concert with our amazing partners in the cultural community. We look forward to expanding the reach of this program in the months and years to come.”

Up to six people will be able to receive discounted admission per EBT card, a decrease of $14 per adult, $12 for seniors (65-plus), $7 for students and $4 per youth. EBT cards will not be accepted as a form of admission payment; cash or another form of payment must be presented.

The museum is open April through December daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., January through March from Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
