Celebrating the arts and humanities in R.I. THE RHODE ISLAND COUNCIL for the Humanities is hosting its annual Celebration of the Humanities to mark National Arts & Humanities Month. The virtual benefit event will celebrate the Ocean State’s notable people and projects while recognizing the work of members of Rhode Island’s public humanities community. Educator and civic leader Joyce L. Stevos; photographer, educator and writer Mary Beth Meehan; and archivist, librarian, artist and writer Janaya Kizzie will each be honored. Proceeds will support culture, history, education and civic engagement in the state.

Tax planning SCORE RHODE ISLAND is hosting a webinar to provide information about filing year-end taxes, and the issues associated with a company’s finances related to employees, customers, equipment and operations. The webinar will address changes made by the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement Act, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act and other legislation, including the extension of the Paycheck Protection Program, as well as IRS pronouncements. Barbara Weltman, a small-business expert, will discuss which tax breaks apply to business entities and how to utilize them before missing deadlines.
