Offshore-wind symposium to focus on changes to ecosystems DISTRICT HALL PROVIDENCE and Venture Café are hosting the second installment in the 17th Annual Ronald C. Baird Sea Grant Science Symposium series. Jenn McCann, director of U.S. coastal programs at the University of Rhode Island Coastal Resources Center, and Andrew Lipsky, acting chief of staff and fisheries and offshore-wind lead at the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration’s Northeast Fisheries Science Center, will discuss how wind-turbine installations have led to changes in ecosystems, the development of benthic communities, and ecological processes and interactions relevant to understanding the effects and potential impact on the marine environment.

Prevent malware TECH COLLECTIVE is hosting a webinar on Microsoft Teams about utilizing Pi-hole, an internet-tracker blocking application, to prevent computer malware infections. Presented by Dan Brousseau and Dan Ponte, the forum will focus on how to build a Pi-hole, install it on a network and the advantages of using it to block unwanted traffic. It is suggested that participants purchase a Raspberry Pi, used to construct a Pi-hole, in advance of this meeting, as they will not be provided. A Raspberry Pi, a small and inexpensive computer, can be purchased from multiple sources for $40 or less.
