PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Office of the Postsecondary Commissioner named Erin Wilbur as the executive director of the R.I. Nursing Education Center. The R.I. NEC is a partnership between the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. Both schools in the partnership will both hold classes to advance the education of prospective nurses that will be administered by the RIOPC.

Wilbur previously worked as the assistant director of the primary care-population medicine program at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
“Given Erin’s strong background in health care, higher education and program administration, the committee felt confident that she was the right candidate for this innovative partnership,” said acting commissioner Brenda Dann-Messier in a press release.
The Rhode Island Nursing Education Center is expected to open in the new South Street Landing building this summer, with classes beginning in the fall.

Correction: A previous version of this story incorrectly said that URI and RIC would hold joint classes. The two schools are in partnership in the NEC and will both occupy the building, but will not hold joint classes.
