The single-family home, which contains five bedrooms, four full bathrooms, two half-bathrooms and a fireplace, is named for the wealthy widow who built the home in 1852 for her daughter and son-in-law, according to the Providence Preservation Society. The Greek Revival-style home is a perfect example of the type of architecture that gave the area its stately character, according to the organization.
“Nineteenth-century visitors to Providence commented on the number and similarity of wood-frame Greek Revival houses that filled the city of Providence. Here we see one of those defining houses,” architect William Kite wrote in the organization’s Festival of Historic Houses Guidebook. “Set gable end to the street … supported on narrow corner pilasters, it emulates a Greek temple, an association further reinforced by the Corinthian-column entrance porch.”
In recent history, the home has undergone extensive renovations, including an updated kitchen with new quartz countertops, Residential Properties said. The home includes a butler’s pantry, a mudroom and a second-floor primary bedroom with a marble en suite bath, the real estate firm said. The property spans three stories, including a finished attic, in addition to an unfinished basement, according to the city’s online property tax evaluation database.
The backyard features a bluestone patio with an outdoor fireplace, and the home also boasts a third-floor rooftop deck with views of College Hill and downtown Providence. The home includes a 720-square-foot parking garage, according to city records.
The 5,265-square-foot house and the 0.28-acre lot of land it stands on were most recently valued by Providence assessors in fiscal year 2022 to be worth $2.15 million, according to the city’s online property tax evaluation database.
The home was sold by Elizabeth Goldberg and Gary Goldberg, and it was bought by Amanda Riegel and John Riegel, according to a copy of the warranty deed, a public record documenting the sale.

Correction: An earlier version of this story gave an incorrect date for the construction of the Ann Eliza Burgess House. It was constructed in 1852.
