Fleet Branches and Online Banking Collect $1.5 Million in Red Cross Donations

FleetBoston Financial today announced that the general public’s extraordinary generosity has already resulted in $1.5 million in charitable contributions through its branches and online banking channels for the American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund. The monies will help fund the Red Cross’ relief efforts in New York City, providing food, shelter and mental health counseling to all individuals affected. Collections began on September 12, 2001.

Donations can be made at any Fleet branch in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New Hampshire and Maine. Checks should be made payable to the “American Red Cross National Disaster Relief Fund.” Alternatively, Fleet HomeLink and OfficeLink customers may use the bill payment feature to donate online.

In addition to accepting donations, FleetBoston Financial’s mobilization effort includes:

  • A $1 million commitment to disaster relief organizations – to match the individual contributions of Fleet’s 50,000 employees, and to meet the additional needs of victims and their families as they arise. This includes $100,000 to the American Red Cross and the Twin Towers Fund.
  • Donation of brokerage operations revenues – the corporation’s investment banking subsidiary, Robertson Stephens, will contribute all of its brokerage operations revenues generated today to disaster relief organizations.
  • Coordinated employee volunteer efforts – to provide staff support and food to various relief agencies through Fleet’s employee volunteer program, Fleet Works.
  • Paid time off to company volunteers – Fleet employees who are called up for military service or who want to volunteer their time to relief agencies will receive paid time off.
