NEWPORT – Returning to her home state, Tara Flynn has been named director of development at the Preservation Society of Newport County.
Flynn spent the past 13 years serving as the director of development at Loyola Marymount University’s College of Communication and Fine Arts in Los Angeles, where she helped execute a fundraiser that exceeded the school’s goal by 28 percent.

Flynn praised the house museums and landscapes in the Preservation Society’s collection, saying in prepared remarks, “These important properties create connections to our heritage that help us understand our past, and help define and distinguish our community by building a strong sense of identity.”
Trudy Coxe, Preservation Society CEO and executive director, lauded Flynn’s “extensive background in development, marketing, sales and management.”
Coxe said in prepared remarks, “The fact that [Flynn] is a Newport native is a bonus, because her knowledge of the community, the state and the Preservation Society means she will be able to hit the ground running.”
In her new role, Flynn, a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, will oversee a team responsible for raising support through membership, the annual fund, planned giving, major gifts and grants for priority projects. She will assume the position July 9.
