Providence should tread lightly with a planned noise-camera pilot program. The city, like many others, already utilizes cameras to capture drivers traveling faster than posted speed limits or driving through red lights. Everyone supports safer streets, but those violations also come with hefty fines. And the more the cameras proliferate, the more the city collects.
