Former Nike executive joins A.H. Belo board

DALLAS – A.H. Belo, owner of The Providence Journal, announced on Thursday that former Nike executive Ronald McCray has joined Belo’s board of directors.
McCray most recently served as vice president and chief administrative officer at Nike, Inc. He’s also served as senior vice president of law and government affairs and chief compliance officer at Kimberley-Clark, Corp. for over two decades. Additionally, he served on the board of directors at the newspaper publisher Knight-Ridder, Inc., from 2003 to 2006.
McCray was elected to his post on the Belo board and will be up for re-election at the 2011 annual shareholders meeting.
“Ron is a longtime resident of Dallas and a recognized leader in our community,” said Robert W. Decherd, Belo chairman, president and CEO. “His executive, legal and board-level experience managing change across a range of industries will strengthen the company’s ability to identify, evaluate and pursue opportunities that align with A. H. Belo’s strategy and create value for shareholders.”
“I am excited about this unique opportunity to help build on A. H. Belo’s record of journalistic and financial excellence as it addresses the challenges and opportunities facing the newspaper publishing industry,” said McCray, who is a member of boards or advisory groups at a range of institutions, including Cornell University, Harvard Law School, Boston Celtics’ owner Boston Championship Basketball Partners LLC and several nonprofit organizations.
