Former Shooters nightclub demolition to begin Friday

PROVIDENCE – Demolition crews will begin tearing down the former Shooters nightclub on the Fox Point waterfront Friday, the R.I. Department of Transportation announced Thursday.

Vacant since 2001, the three-story, 65,000-square-foot Shooters building will be leveled and reduced to a single-story steel frame by the end of the fall, the transportation department said. The remains of 1,600 feet of floating docks that once accommodated 35 boats there will be removed after the building comes down.

The nightclub and marina were purchased by the state in 2000 so the property could be used as a staging area for the Interstate 195 relocation project.

The state Department of Environmental Management is hoping to partner with a private developer to build a mixed-use project on the site that will fit in with India Point Park.
