Gas prices continue to drop in R.I., Mass.

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island decreased to $3.70 per gallon on Monday, 6 cents less than last week but still 16 cents higher than the national average, according to AAA Northeast. 

Monday’s price is 3 cents more than a month ago and 28 cents higher year over year.     

“In addition to lower prices locally, the national average pump price for a gallon of gasoline dropped 12 cents in the past week,” said Diana Gugliotta, director of public affairs for AAA Northeast. “The cost of fuel has edged lower on fears of economic slowdowns around the globe.” 

Midgrade gas in Rhode Island averaged $4.31 per gallon on Monday.

Premium gas averaged $4.65 per gallon.    

Diesel fuel averaged $5.82 per gallon.   

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas decreased 5 cents from a week ago to $3.76 per gallon. One year ago, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in the Bay State was $3.42 per gallon.     

Midgrade gas in Massachusetts averaged $4.31 per gallon on Monday.  

Premium gas averaged $4.64 per gallon.  

Diesel fuel averaged $5.79 per gallon.
