PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 7 cents this week to $2.70 per gallon, 14 cents lower than the national average of $2.84 and 5 cents lower than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

The price of regular gas in Rhode Island has increased 40 cents since February, AAA said.

“Monday morning crude oil was trending higher on reports that the U.S. State Department plans to end the use of waivers for countries to import oil from Iran in an attempt to end all oil exports from that country,” stated Lloyd Albert, AAA Northeast senior vice president of public and government affairs. “Decreases in Iranian exports could tighten supply in the global market, though that could be balanced by increased U.S. production.”

Prices in the state ranged 40 cents, from $2.55 to $2.95 per gallon.
