Gas prices fall in R.I., Mass. before Thanksgiving road travel

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island decreased to $3.76 per gallon on Monday, 8 cents less than last week and 10 cents higher than the national average, according to AAA Northeast. 

Monday’s price is 22 cents more than a month ago and 34 cents higher year over year.    

“Although the national average has fallen sharply since the June peak of nearly $5.02, local prices are 30 to 40 cents higher than a year ago,” said Diana Gugliotta, director of public affairs for AAA Northeast. “As we fuel up for Thanksgiving road trips, we can be thankful that gas prices are moving in the right direction for now.” 

Midgrade gas in Rhode Island averaged $4.33 per gallon on Monday.

Premium gas averaged $4.67 per gallon.   

Diesel fuel averaged $5.92 per gallon.   

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas decreased 4 cents from a week ago to $3.81 per gallon. One year ago, the average price for regular unleaded gasoline in the Bay State was $3.42 per gallon.    

Midgrade gas in Massachusetts averaged $4.34 per gallon on Monday. 

Premium gas averaged $4.67 per gallon. 

Diesel fuel averaged $5.88 per gallon.
