PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline in Rhode Island increased 3 cents this week to $2.70 per gallon, 1 cent lower than the national average and 22 cents lower than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.
The gas price increase marked the first in the state since early May, according to AAA. The company attributed rising prices to refinery interruptions due to a recent refinery explosion in Philadelphia and increases due to the upcoming Independence Day holiday travel.
Prices ranged 44 cents from $2.55 to $2.99 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.92 per gallon, ranging from $2.75 to $3.05 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.13 per gallon, ranging from $2.95 to $3.34 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.03 per gallon, ranging from $2.79 to $3.35 per gallon.
In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas also increased 3 cents, to $2.67 per gallon, 4 cents lower than the national average and 17 cents lower than prices at this time last year.
Prices in the Bay State ranged 62 cents from $2.43 to $3.05 per gallon.
- Midgrade gas averaged $2.88 per gallon, ranging from $2.63 to $3.25 per gallon.
- Premium gas averaged $3.04 per gallon, ranging from $2.83 to $3.45 per gallon.
- Diesel fuel averaged $3.01, per gallon, ranging from $2.79 to $3.39 per gallon.
