Gas prices rise for 5th straight week

AAA Southern New England’s weekly survey of gasoline prices across Rhode Island found an average increase of 2 cents per gallon. The July 31 survey was the fifth in as many weeks to find prices had risen.

Self-serve unleaded gasoline averaged $3.10 per gallon, up 2 cents from last Monday’s survey and 15 cents from the one five weeks ago. A year ago, the average price was $2.40 per gallon.

The average self-serve price for premium unleaded was $3.32 per gallon, the report found, and for diesel, $3.06.

“Motorists should continue to shop around for the best prices in their area,” the AAA news release said. For regular unleaded, it found a range this week of 16 cents per gallon, from a low of $3.05 to a high of $3.21. Similar ranges were found for other grades of fuel.
