WARWICK – Joseph B. Goho, who has spent close to three decades in the North Providence School Department, has been named Rhode Island’s best superintendent for 2025.
The Rhode Island School Superintendents’ Association announced Tuesday that Goho was chosen as the 2025 Rhode Island Superintendent of the Year during the association’s general membership meeting earlier Tuesday. The association says the award recognizes outstanding achievement in school district leadership, and commitment to the community and service to the group.
The association says that during Goho’s tenure as superintendent, the school department has demonstrated a commitment to building new school infrastructure in town. Such new infrastructure includes four new elementary school buildings, a new central office administration building on the North Providence High School campus, a renovated high school auditorium and library media center, renovated athletic fields and upgraded middle school gymnasium and cafeterias.
Academically, the school department under Goho’s direction implemented new curricula in English language arts, math and science, the association says, including new research-based “walk-through” protocols to monitor curricula implementation. The department, the association says, also under Goho’s guidance created new career and technical education pathways at the high school, including CTE feeder programs at both of the town’s middle schools.
Goho, with this award, will be formally recognized by the American Association of School Administrators at its National Conference on Education in New Orleans in March, the association says.
