Golf tourney raises $57K for Providence Children’s Museum

EAST PROVIDENCE – One hundred golfers took part in the Providence Children’s Museum’s 33rd annual Allen H. Chatterton Jr. Memorial Golf Tournament held on Aug. 1 at the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, presented by Admirals Bank, and helped raise $57,725 for the museum.

The golf tournament netted $44,500 to benefit hands-on exhibits and educational programs produced by the museum. During the silent auction guests bid $5,800 and gave $3,725 in support of memberships for low-income families. A raffle and contest holes around the course brought in an additional $3,700.

First held in 1984, the Providence Children’s Museum’s annual golf tournament was started by the late Allen H. Chatterton Jr., an early supporter and board member of the museum. Allen H. Chatterton III has chaired the tournament for 27 consecutive years in honor of his father.
