HARI names external affairs director, government relations assistant

PROVIDENCE – The Hospital Association of Rhode Island and its members recently welcomed two new staff members, Lisa Tomasso, recently named director of external affairs, and Kristin Brennan, recently named government relations assistant, to the organization.

Tomasso, who was previously community relations manager for The Providence Center, now represents HARI as the association’s director of external affairs. Tomasso will be responsible for oversight of HARI communications, public policy, advocacy and government relations functions. She will also lead the development and implementation of HARI’s advocacy plan.

Tomasso was elected to the R.I. House of Representatives in 2010, where she served as the senior deputy majority leader and was a member of the House Committee on Finance until 2014. She received her bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Rhode Island.

Brennan will provide administrative support to HARI President Teresa Paiva Weed and the government relations staff.

In addition, HARI named Jennifer Gervais and Nancy Lebrun among recent promotions within HARI.

Gervais has been promoted to director of member and creative services. Throughout her 12 years at HARI, Gervais has expanded her role multiple times, providing graphic design, marketing and creative services for the association. Gervais will continue to provide the association with high-level information technology support and management of the association’s creative output.

Following the retirement of David Rousseau, Nancy Lebrun was appointed the Rhode Island Cancer Registry director of cancer information systems. Lebrun was hired in 2011 as an auditor for the Comparative Effectiveness Research project. In 2012, Lebrun became a certified tumor registrar. Upon completion of the CER project, Lebrun stayed on as a consultant for the Rhode Island Cancer Registry until the start of the Patient Centered Outcomes Research project, a continuation of the CER project. Prior to her transition into her current role, Lebrun was the education and training coordinator for the cancer registry. Lebrun is currently working toward a bachelor’s degree in management with a concentration in health care.
