WELLESLEY, Mass. – Harvard Pilgrim Health Care has named 15 hospitals and medical centers in Massachusetts, two in Rhode Island and eight in New Hampshire to its 2007 Hospital Honor Roll. Newport Hospital and Landmark Medical Center are the local honorees.
“It certainly is a mark of distinction for Landmark Medical Center to be included on the honor roll,” Gary J. Gaube, CEO of the Woonsocket facility, said in a statement yesterday. “It is affirmation of our continuous efforts to provide the community with quality programs and services, and a testament to the commitment and talents of our physicians and medical professionals who deliver care daily to our patients.”
The honor roll recognizes adult acute-care hospitals that place among the top 25 percent nationwide in patient safety and quality of care, Harvard Pilgrim said. Rankings are based on data reported by the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on Hospital Compare, for categories related to Leapfrog and Hospital Quality Alliance recommendations on procedures for preventing surgical infection and treatment protocols for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia.
The Hospital Honor Roll is relatively new to Harvard Pilgrim, which for years has published an annual honor roll of physicians and physician groups.
Harvard Pilgrim Health Care – an insurance provider serving members in Massachusetts, Hew Hampshire, Maine and beyond – reported a patient-member population of 1.01 million as of Aug. 15. To learn more, visit www.harvardpilgrim.org.
