HarvardNet dropping DSL service, cutting jobs

MEDFORD — HarvardNet, a business telecommunications service provider, announced that it was closing its digital subscriber line high-speed Internet access operation and laying off more than half of its 480 employee workforce, the Boston Globe reported. A company executive told the Globe that the company would focus on hosting and managing corporate and institutional Web pages. HarvardNet plans to continue its DSL service until Jan. 15, the company announced.
