WOONSOCKET – CVS Health Corp. has promised to keep Aetna Inc. headquartered in Hartford, Conn., for 10 years, the Hartford Business Journal reported Thursday.

The company also promised to employ more than 5,000 workers in Hartford for more than four years and honor Aetna’s previous promise to the city to contribute to a joint $50 million pledge to revitalize the city’s finances.

Aetna had previously planned to move to New York City, but decided to stay in Hartford after New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio rescinded a $9.6 million tax incentive for the company’s relocation.

The Conn. Insurance Department is scheduled to hold a public hearing on the acquisition Thursday morning.

The two companies are still awaiting regulatory approval for CVS’ acquisition of Aetna.

The companies have said previously they expect the deal to close in the second half of 2018.
